Since launching its Curbside Composting Pilot Program in August 2023, now the Residential Food Waste Collection program, DPW has provided curbside food-waste collection to 12,000 households, keeping more than six million pounds of food scraps out of the trash. DPW is also celebrating the collection of one million pounds through its food-waste drop-off program—roughly the weight of 50 fully loaded trash trucks. dpw.dc.gov.
