McDuffie Concedes The Election

Former At-Large Councilmember (I) and DC Democratic Mayoral Candidate Kenyon McDuffie conceded the election to Ward 4 Councilmember and DC Democratic Mayoral Candidate Janesse Lewis George (D) on the morning of June 18.

According to the DC Board of Elections, Lewis George has secured 54,105 votes, representing 52.84% of the 113,836 ballots counted by June 17. Her campaign racked up a double-digit lead in every ward except Ward 3.

“While the final certification process will continue, it is clear that the voters have chosen a different path,” said a statement issued by the McDuffie campaign.

“I want to thank every voter who participated in this election, the tens of thousands of Washingtonians who placed their faith in our campaign, and all of our volunteers, supporters, staff, family members, community leaders, and neighbors who believed in our vision for the future of our city. The campaign may be over, but the work of building a safer, more affordable, more prosperous city continues,” the statement said.

“I am optimistic. I am proud that Ward 6 delivered such strong support. We will have new faces on the Council and a new Delegate. As a senior member, I believe it will be an exciting time for our city. We are up to the challenge,” Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen (D) said.
