DPW to Host 18th Annual Truck Touch May 2

The machines that keep the District running will step into public view this weekend as residents of all ages are invited to climb aboard, ask questions and see how the city works from the driver’s seat at Truck Touch.

The District’s Department of Public Works (DPW) will host this annual event on Saturday, May 2, at RFK (2400 E. Capitol St. SE) Lot 8 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Part exhibition and part hands on lesson in city services, this family friendly festival will feature nearly different 30 vehicles used in daily operations across the city. Snowplows, fire engines and police cruisers will be on display, with opportunities for visitors to explore them up close and learn how agencies use the equipment to clear streets, repair traffic signals, respond to emergencies and more.

Across the lot on the race track, student innovation will take center stage. Beginning at 9 a.m., local students will showcase the electric vehicles they engineered in time trials. The Department of Energy and the Environment (DOEE) annual EV Grand Prix event will follow at 12:30 p.m. as students put their skills to the test on the race track.

The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will also be on-site with interactive games and activities, including tennis, basketball and fitness challenges.

All attendees under 18 will are invited to enjoy a free packed lunch through the DC Free Summer Meals Program.

This event is free and open to the public of all ages. No advanced registration is required. Visit www.dpw.dc.gov/trucktouch to learn more.
