The Washington Metropolitan Chapter of Community Associations Institute (WMCCAI) announced Tiber Island Condominium (429 N St. SW) as the recipient of 2025 Community Association of the Year award.
Presented annually to associations that exemplify leadership, sound financial and operational practices, clear communication and a commitment to fostering a thriving residential community, this award recognizes communities that demonstrate strong governance, effective operations and meaningful resident engagement.
A Midcentury, Modern Waterfront Community
Tiber Island Condominium is a well established residential community located along the
waterfront in Southwest DC. The building was completed in 1965 as part of the Southwest urban renewal effort and is celebrating its 60th year as a residential association this year.
Designed in the midcentury modern tradition, Tiber Island features 64 townhome-style
residences arranged around landscaped courtyards and open green spaces. The layout
emphasizes walkability, shared outdoor areas and a strong sense of neighborhood
in an urban setting.
In recognition of its architectural and historical significance, Tiber Island is designated
as a historic landmark in the District and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This designation reflects the community’s importance not only as a place to live, but also as a lasting example of thoughtful urban planning and design.
Tiber Island has been professionally managed by EJF Real Estate for more than 20 years. This continuity supported consistent operations, institutional knowledge and collaborative leadership between residents, volunteers and management professionals. Tiber Island has remained a distinctive and enduring presence in Southwest DC, valued for its waterfront location near The Wharf and its longstanding commitment to community living and stewardship.
Celebrating 60 Years of Community
Receiving the Community Association of the Year Award during its 60th anniversary makes the recognition especially meaningful. The milestone reflects six decades of resident involvement, volunteer leadership, and shared responsibility for maintaining and strengthening the community through changing times.
Anniversary celebrations offer an opportunity to honor Tiber Island’s history while looking ahead to the future. Marking 60 years highlights the durability of the community’s original vision, one rooted in connection, cooperation, livability and its continued ability to adapt while preserving those core values.
A Community Built on Engagement and Stewardship
WMCCAI recognition reflects the collective efforts of Tiber Island’s volunteer leaders, residents, and professional partners. The award signals a successful balance of the complex responsibilities of community management, including governance, communication and financial stewardship, while maintaining a strong focus on quality of life for residents.
Recognition That Honors Both History and the Future
Communities recognized through the program are featured throughout the region and in WMCCAI publications, helping to share best practices and elevate standards across the industry.
The 2025 award coincides with Tiber Island’s 60th anniversary, its historic landmark status, and decades of stable professional management, the recognition honors both present day excellence and the enduring strength of a community that continues to evolve while remaining grounded in its values.
