Walk & Roll To School Day is October 8

Get ready to Walk & Roll.

The annual “Walk & Roll” to School Day is Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Lincoln Park (13th Street at East Capitol Street).  The Capitol Hill event is sponsored by the Ward 6 Public Schools Parent Organization (W6PSPO) and is billed as the Unity Walk. It will be emcee’d by Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen (D).

The event will feature performances by the Ludlow Taylor Dancing Stars, Watkins Bucket Drummers and the Eastern HS Marching Band.  A representative from Free DC, the grassroots organization advocating for autonomy and self-governance in the District, will be one of the speakers.

The first national Walk and Roll to School day was held in 1997. Since then, another annual event, Bike and Roll to school day has been celebrated in May every year since 2012.

Designed to bring about change in communities by taking city officials along the routes children take on their way to school, 47 states and the District participated in Walk & Roll to School Day in 2024, many as part of wider campaigns to encourage safe routes to school.

The Lincoln Park event starts at 7:30 a.m., and is expected to end by 8:15 a.m. so all participants can get to school on time.

The event is supported by the Capitol Hill Community Foundation.
