Police Capture Suspects Using “Find My” Feature

Some would-be young thieves were hoisted with their own petard Sunday.

On Sunday, April 20, at aroud 9:00 p.m., officers got reports of an armed robbery on the 100 block of Fourth Street SE, a block south of Grubb’s Pharmacy.

Police say two teenaged suspects armed with a handgun approached a victim and demanded property. The victim gave them his stuff, and the suspects fled the scene on foot with the victim’s property, including an iPhone.

With permission from the victim, officers on scene began tracking the stolen iPhone. The location of the iPhone and the lookout of the suspects was shared with other officers canvassing the area. A short time later, officers located and arrested two juveniles who matched the description of the suspects. During a search of the two, the victim’s property was located and recovered.

As a result of the officers’ swift actions and investigation, a 15-year-old male and a 15-year-old female, both of Southeast, were charged with Armed Robbery (Gun).

The crime blotter includes information from Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Fifth and First District blotters as well as press releases from MPD.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly placed the crime as north, rather than south, of the pharmacy.
