Arrests in Southwest Stabbing, Southeast Shooting

A woman was arrested on Friday for a fatal shooting that happened in the Harlow Navy Yard in March.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Homicide Branch arrested the 31-year-old Southeast woman of a suspect for a fatal shooting that occurred inside of a residential building in the Navy Yard neighborhood.

Police say that they went to an apartment in the building around 3 a.m. March 31, after getting reports of the sound of gunshots. They found 44-year-old Michael James Quander Jr., of Northwest, inside the building with gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

The detectives’ investigation revealed this case is domestic in nature.

On Friday, May 3, 2024, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested the 31-year-old woman pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant. She is charged with Second Degree Murder While Armed.

Arrest in Southwest Stabbing

A man who police say stabbed another man to death on April 27 was quickly arrested the same day in Southwest.

At around 6:22 p.m. last Saturday, First District officers and members of the Special Operations Division responded to the 100 block of T Stree SW, after getting calls abouta stabbing. There they found 41-year-old Marin Gross Jr. suffering from multiple stab wounds.

He was transported to an area hospital where, after all lifesaving efforts failed, he was pronounced dead.

Responding officers detained a suspect nearby. A 49-year-old Southwest manwas arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.

Man Found Guilty of Crimes After 2023 H Street Chase

A 29-year-old man who led police on a high-speed chase down H Street NE last year has been found guilty of a host of charges, including carrying a pistol without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, as well as felony fleeing from law enforcement and reckless driving at high speed, running red lights and stop signs, even though traffic was heavy and many pedestrians.

It happened around 9:40 p.m. Sept. 15, 2023, when police attempted to detain Frederick Powell on the 800 block of K Street, observing that he was driving what appeared to be an unregistered vehicle. Police said when they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Powell fled.

Police say they found the vehicle outside the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission building (888 First St. NE) and that they saw Powell entering; video surveillance later showed Powell trying to hide a handgun in the building, a gun that police say turned out to have been loaded.

The verdict was issued April 30. Powell had previously been convicted of two counts of robbery and one count of conspiracy in 2017 and was on supervision for a 2021 conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Suspect Arrested in 2020 Triple Shooting

A suspect has been arrested an October 2020 shooting that left three people injured.

Police say that around 8:30 p.m. on Oct.10, 2020, Fifth District officers were called to the 600 block of 19th Street NE. They found two men and a woman with gunshot wound injuries. The three were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

On May 2, 2024, a 30-year-old Southeast man was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Kill pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant.
