Police Arrest Suspect in Early Morning Shooting of DCHA Officer

Around 8:15 a.m. Thursday, police captured a man after a DC Housing Authority (DCHA) police officer was shot in a parking garage on the 1200 block of Fourth St. SE.

A DCHA Police officer was shot around 5:45 a.m. The suspect then barricaded themselves inside the Arris Apartments (1331 Fourth St. SE). Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) was called to the scene and assisted DCHA in an arrest.

“A DC Housing Authority police officer was shot in the torso at approximately 5:45 a.m. today while patrolling the Carroll Apartments at 410 M Street SE in the Navy Yard area as part of DCHA PD’s regular patrol,” DCHA said in a statement. “The officer was transported to an area hospital. DCHA can confirm the officer involved is in stable condition and alert.”

DCHA deferred other inquiries to MPD. Police are still investigating the events that led up to the shooting. The shelter in place was lifted at about 10 a.m. but police remained on scene as part of the investigation.

Roads were closed from New Jersey Avenue to Sixth Street SE and from L to Water Streets SE.

Another DCHA officer was shot last October as he drove to work in Northeast. In 2019, DCHA officer Marcus Williams was killed while on duty at Potomac Gardens.
