
Police arrested a man Saturday afternoon on Duncan Place NE, a few blocks north of Maury Elementary.
At approximately 3:13 p.m., members of the First District came to the 1200 block of Duncan Pl. NE for the report of a shooting. They found a woman, 21-year-old Jordan Coates in front of an apartment building. She was suffering from gunshot wounds but alive and conscious.
Coates was transported to local hospital by DC Fire and EMS, where despite life-saving efforts, she succumbed to her injuries and died.
During the investigation, MPD officers determined that the suspect was inside of an apartment in the building. Police said the incident appeared to be domestic in nature.
There was a short barricaded interaction before the suspect, 24-year-old from Southeast, DC, surrendered and was arrested the same afternoon. He was charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.
