Blessing of the Fleet, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Recreation Pier @ The Wharf (1001 7th St. SW)
An annual tradition continues into its 48th year with the Port of Washington Yacht Club (POWYC) DC Blessing of the Fleet.
A past release from the Mayor’s Office traces the tradition to ancient Greek and Norse practices, when the gods were summoned to watch over the fishing fleet. This more modern tradition focuses more on the social than the sectarian. There are guests speakers followed by the procession. Many boats sport creative decorations in a flotilla that lasts for hours, beginning at noon. View the program on shore from the Seventh Street Pier.

2023 Capitol Hill Classic | Races start @Stanton Park between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Just a few more days until the 2023 Capitol Hill Classic. There’s a 10K, 3K, and a fun run. The races all begin in front of Peabody Elementary, located on Stanton Park. Run in support of the Capitol Hill Cluster School, a DC Public School serving over 1,000 students from PreK through middle school at three campuses – Peabody (425 C St. NE), Watkins (420 12th St. NE) and Stuart Hobson Middle School (410 E St. NE).
All race proceeds go directly to support students, teachers and education at the Cluster School and help to bridge the gap between DCPS-allocated budget and the money needed to fund field trips, buy art supplies, support classroom projects, fund the school gardens, provide professional development for our teachers and fund teachers’ requests.
There will be road closures around the park and on the route. See a map –or register to run: www.capitolhillclassic.com/
