It’s time to tap that! Wundergarten (1101 First St. NE) celebrates Oktoberfest this year starting Friday, Sept. 16.

The German beer garden’s largest event of the year will feature four weekends full of German cuisine, live bands, Bavarian games, DJ parties and prizes, and of course lots of beer!

Wunder Garten’s Oktoberfest begins at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16th with the traditional “Tapping of the First Keg” by Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen (D), and President and CEO of the NoMa Business Improvement District, Maura Brophy. It’s an honor to be chosen to tap the keg, which officially marks the first beers served. A perfect tap happens “in as few blows as possible,” according the organizers of the annual autumn festival in Munich.

Friday nights are co-hosted with the Embassy of Germany and involve a Lederhosen & Dirndl DJ Party from 8 pm. to 12 a.m. Show up early –arriving before 7 p.m. in that attire will earn you a free beer.

Saturdays enter the Bavarian Olympics starting at 3 p.m. and then coast into the dance party. There’s trivia Mondays and Wednesdays, and PRIDEtoberfest on SundaSept. 17 and Thursday, Oct. 6 in partnership with Capital Pride.

The festival will conclude on Sunday, Oct. 9th with a kick-the-keg party.
