Man Shot Tuesday Afternoon at 11th and Penn Ave

There was a late afternoon shoot out on the 500 block of 11 Street SE. At around 4 p.m. Jan. 11, a man was shot multiple times. An individual with two gunshot non-life-threatening wounds later drove himself to the hospital.

The victim reported that the site of the shooting was approximately 501 11th St SE. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) shut down the area to do forensic examination for a few hours Tuesday evening, confirming the shooting at the site.

According to the police report, the victim told officers he was sitting in his parked car near the corner of Tenth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue SE when a person approached him and asked for a ride. The victim agreed. Once the car began to move, the suspect produced a handgun and demanded cash from the driver, who gave him $200. The victim stopped the car and the suspect got out, followed by the driver.

The victim approached the suspect, who shot him twice in the leg before running away, direction unknown. The victim got back in the car and drove himself to hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers would not say if the suspect was previously known to the victim, citing the ongoing investigation.
