UPDATE: Signs posted in the store windows Jan. 9 indicated Harris Teeter Jenkins Row grocery will close Saturday, Jan. 15. The last day for the pharmacy is Tuesday, Jan. 18.
On Dec. 6, Harris Teeter officially announced that it will close its Jenkins Row location (1350 Potomac Ave SE), on or before January 22, 2022.
The decision was made “after careful consideration and strategic market review,” a spokesperson said.

Harris Teeter’s Jenkins Row opened in May of 2008. 121 associates work at the 48,000 square foot location. The company said they began informing associates of the store closing starting Dec. 3, when the Hill is Home heard the first rumors. Harris Teeter will offer its associates the opportunity to transfer to other locations and will work with them over the coming weeks to help them with the transition.
Harris Teeter cut store hours nationwide starting in September of this year, reportedly in an effort to cope with staff shortages. Harris Teeter is currently looking to fill more than 550 positions in the DC area. The Jenkins Row Harris Teeter reduced hours starting Nov. 10.
