The Pumpkin Walk Returns to the Hill

Vote for Your Favorite Book-Themed Yard

1001
Unable to hold their usual Literary Feast, a fundraiser for local schools, the Capitol Hill Community Foundation instead held a Literary Pumpkin Walk starting in 2020. Residents decorate their yard with a book theme. The winner selects a local school to receive the $1,000 prize.

Pick a favorite book or literary character and create a pumpkin, scarecrow, or full-on front yard scene around that idea.

In the before times, the Capitol Hill Community Foundation (CHCF) would gather around our kitchen tables to share a book-themed meal as part of our annual Literary Feast. That’s off the table now!

Instead, continue the other Halloween tradition that started in 2020. This self-guided tour of book-themed pumpkins and scarecrows across the Capitol Hill neighborhood is a celebration of the season (and our favorite books!) and it raises money for local schools.

Register your idea here by Oct. 23 and it will be included on the tour map.

Then vote (online) for your favorite design. The winning household will get to designate $1,000 towards a Capitol Hill public school of their choosing.

The Literary Pumpkin Walk is brought to you by the Capitol Hill Community Foundation. The Foundation is a 100 percent volunteer-driven community organization that supporst activities, projects, and groups that enrich the history, diversity, and beauty of the Capitol Hill community.

CHCF normally raises funds for local schools through the Literary Feast. Since this event has been cancelled, please consider donating to the Capitol Hill Community Foundation. Your donations support grants to local schools.
