Join Community Ribbon Cutting at Plaza Park July 4

Community members on Parcel 4 of the Eastern Market Metro Park (EMMP) June 17, 2021.

Let’s celebrate being together again! And where better to do so, than by meeting at the place Councilmember Allen said should be “a place to walk to, rather than through”?

After nearly a decade of community work, that place, Eastern Market Metro Park (EMMP) is now officially open. Located at Pennsylvania Ave. SE between Seventh and Eighth Streets SE, the plaza features a new playground, splash pad, a pavilion as well as pedestrian and streetscape improvements.

Join Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6-D) and the many folks who put in the hard work to build a vision, advocate for what was possible and made this park a reality.

The community ribbon will be cut immediately following the Capitol Hill July 4 Parade down Barracks row. At 10 a.m., the parade of community organizations, schools and businesses will start at G Street, marching up Eighth Street SE to arrive at Eastern Market Metro Park at about 11 a.m.

There, once the community has fulfilled Allen’s prophecy by walking to the plaza en masse, we will cut the ribbon together.

Afterward, enjoy some live music and celebrate this beautiful new space.
