DC Health just announced a pop-up vaccination clinic for youth 12 years of age and older will take place this Saturday, June 26th at Peace Baptist Church (712 18th St. NE). Vaccinations will be available from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The clinic takes place in the lower auditorium of Peace Baptist Church. Peace Baptist is located at 712 18th St. NE (between Gales and Rosedale Streets a block off Benning Road). The church is located near the place where wards 5, 6 and 7 meet. It is physically located in Ward 6, one block from its border with Ward 7 and across Benning Road from Ward 5.
New data is showing an alarming increase in cases among young adults between 18 and 25 years of age and among younger teenagers. Vaccination rates among young African Americans are not keeping pace with other residents. According to data presented at a June 12 DC Council budget hearing, less than 10 percent of youth living in wards 7 and 8 aged 12 to 15 have received even a single dose of the vaccine. In Ward 5 the rate is 19.2 percent; it’s up to 33 percent for Ward 6.
The clinic will administer the Pfizer vaccine, which has been approved for youth down to the age of 12 years. Those who may not be able to make it to the vaccine clinic may still join the Instagram and Twitter discussions to hear what their peers have to say and to share their own views about COVID-19.
