The impact of the coronavirus on the District and the nation should not be underestimated. Nearly 600,000 Americans have lost their lives to the disease. 1,138 of these are District residents.

COVID-19 has killed almost twice as many Americans as were killed in World War II.

Many members of the impacted families will suffer depression as a result, and have no emotional support.

Capital Caring Health (CCH) is offering that support to DMV families. It costs nothing to take advantage of their professional counseling services.

Capital Caring Health (CCH) and the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI), a nationwide association of 75 non-profit hospices dedicated to helping people live fully through the end of life, and offering mental health care, are combining forces locally and nationally to help people cope, and grow beyond COVID-19 loss.

CCH offers group sessions as well and one-to-one counseling. Staff are specially trained to help those who have lost a loved one due to COVID-19. “We charge nothing because we view grief counseling as part of our mission for all the communities we serve,” said a representative.

Special sessions are offered for the many children who are struggling with the loss of a parent, sibling, close friend or grandparent. That includes a summer overnight camp hosted by CCH in July, also completely free.

CCH has over 50 professional counselors in the DMV made up of grief counselors, social workers, and chaplains. Their goal is to help as many area families as possible with their grief and, so often, extreme depression.
