It’s time to update a triangular patch of ground that has links to film history in the District.
Join the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and the Department of General Services (DGS) to discuss the renovation of “Spielberg Park”, the triangle park at the center of Massach 17th and C Streets SE.
The virtual meeting takes place at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 19.
The park is informally named for movie director Steven Spielberg.
As outlined by Hill Rag film critic Mike Canning in his book Hollywood on the Potomac, in 2001, Spielberg filmed scenes for the film Minority Report on the 1700 block of C Street SE. After filming was complete, he paid to have new playground equipment installed and for a party for the street’s residents.
Twenty years later, the park is in need of renovation.
The project, with $750,000 already allocated, is just starting on the planning stages, so you have a chance to get in on the ground floor.
