A man has succumbed to his injuries after a car crash Saturday night.

Police said at around 1:27 a.m., the driver of a red Nissan Altima was traveling westbound on the 1400 block of C Street NE. The operator of the Nissan Altima passed the red light at the intersection of 14th Street and C Street and hit a silver Toyota Camry in the intersection, crashing into a nearby home.

The operator and passenger of the Nissan Altima, reported by witnesses to be two teenagers in the vehicle of a stolen relative, exited the car they were driving and ran.

The resident of the home tweeted about the incident, saying that his children play in the area where the crash came to rest. He also said that he hoped that the occupant of the second car would recover from his injuries.

Unfortunately, the man did not recover. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (DCFEMS) came to the scene and transported the operator and passenger of the Toyota Camry to a local hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the operator of the Toyota Camry was pronounced dead. The passenger of the Toyota Camry was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The decedent has been identified as 30 year-old Brian Johnson, of Northeast DC.

MPD would not provided additional details or confirm witness accounts of the crash, citing the active investigation.
