Paris Bleu (321 7th St SE) is located in Eastern Market directly above Groovy DC and features a variety of gift items including masks, winter hats, handbags and a variety of holiday decorations.
Owner Christine Arnold is from France and says she enjoys providing her customers with Parisian goods. After she retired from a career in management, Arnold said it was “time to take a risk.” So, she opened Paris Bleu in October, 2018.
Arnold says her boutique stands out because the majority of the goods such as accessories and ornaments are imported from France. Her current collections also feature Italian leather handbags and eiffel tower coasters made locally in Alexandria, Virginia. Arnold’s winter collection also features French Knot hats which are manufactured in Nepal with a focus on sustainable, ethical practices.
One of Arnold’s unique services is her signature gift wrapping which is one of the many things she does to create a unique and intimate shopping experience for customers.
Arnold emphasized the measures she has taken to keep customers safe during the pandemic including plexiglass shields and limiting crowds in the small shop. While the shop was closed for three months this spring due to the pandemic, Arnold noted that business over the past several months has been good and that people are doing holiday shopping early.
“People have been supporting me and I am optimistic,” Arnold said. “I know that there are probably tough times ahead, but I have a good feeling for this season.”
