An adult woman and a young man were the victims of gun violence in Hill East Sunday.
At about 3:30 p.m., police were called to the corner of 18th and Bay Streets. An adult woman was shot in the leg. Five hours later, police went to 16th and A Streets SE where a young man, possibly in his late teens, was suffering from similar injuries.
A lookout was issued in the first shooting for a black male about 20 years old, driving a green sedan. The vehicle was last seen in the 200 block of 19th Street SE.
Today, there were 3 neighborhoods in #Ward6 impacted by gun violence. I’ve talked with MPD leadership & investigations are ongoing, neighbors are helping by sharing video/info, & several guns already recovered. We have to treat gun violence as the public health emergency it is.

Fortunately, the victim’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
The suspect in the southwest shooting drove a dark-colored Nissan Altima, and fled the area southbound. That vehicle was later recovered after the driver crashed on the I295 near the 11th Street Bridge around 9 p.m.. The car rolled over and the occupants fled. Police recovered the vehicle along with three weapons that were left behind.
