COVID has stopped Hill neighbors from gathering around kitchen tables for the annual Literary Feast, Instead, organizers are planning an outdoor event to celebrate our neighborhood, our love of books, and the holiday… the Literary Pumpkin Walk!
Choose a book or literary character to decorate your yard the week before Halloween. Then, register at literarypumpkinwalk.org to be included on the map and list of homes participating.
Neighbors can take a literary-Halloween stroll through the neighborhood, and vote for the best design! The winning house/design will get to designate $1,000 towards a local school of their choice.
Presented by the Capitol Hill Community Foundation, the Literary Feast festival usually consists of more than 35 book-themed dinner parties held in homes across Capitol Hill on a single evening in the week before. Each dinner features food and fun related to a specific book. Proceeds support the Capitol Hill Community Foundation (CHCF) grants to neighborhood schools.
This year, group events in homes are frowned upon. But books and outdoor walks are great ideas! So, do the pumpkin walk, and keep the tradition of literary celebration –and school support– alive.
