Coleman Awaiting Sentencing for Murder of His Own Father

Police are looking for a man who escaped police custody while awaiting sentencing for murder.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPS) is looking for public assistance in locating Bernard Coleman III. Coleman was awaiting sentencing for First Degree Murder when he escaped from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital on Sunday, October 4.

Police describe Coleman, who is pictured above, as a 27 year-old black male, 6’0” in height, weighing approximately 145 pounds, with a medium complexion. Coleman has black hair and brown eyes.

Coleman was arrested March 29, 2017 and charged in the fatal shooting of his father, 43-year-old Bernard Coleman. The shooting occurred in the 4000 block of Cole Boulevard SE on Friday, March 17, 2017.

Anyone with information on Coleman’s whereabouts is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099.  Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s Text Tip Line by sending a text message to 50411.

 The Metropolitan Police Department and The United States Marshals Service are offering a combined reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to Winston’s arrest.
