As a man fixed a flat tire Sunday night, he also fought off a would-be car thief on New Jersey Avenue SE.
Just after midnight Monday, May 18, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers got a call about a disorderly fight on the 400 block of New Jersey Avenue SE. When they got there, they found a man with injuries to his head and face.
The man told officers that he was inspecting his tires, thinking one might be flat, when another man came up to him, started punching him and demanded his keys. The victim fought back until the suspect fled the scene without obtaining any property.
Police found the suspect nearby and he was stopped without incident and placed him under arrest for Assault with Intent to Rob.
While this case was closed with arrest, the incident is still under investigation by First District Detectives as it is prepared for prosecution in DC Superior Court.
