Little Wild Things (906 Bladensburg Rd. NE) is finding ways to keep their urban farm in business –ways that can keep you in fresh, local food.
Before the COVID-19 outbreak, the farm primarily sold wholesale to restaurants, caterers, hotels, and other local organizations. That business has almost disappeared overnight. They have also decided not to participate in farmer’s markets temporarily to help flatten the curve.
These two factors put the Little Wild Things urban farm, like many other businesses, in jeopardy. “We’ve worked so hard to build this little farm and we would be devastated to see it end,” the Wild Farmers wrote.
However, there is still opportunity: as a local urban farm growing produce right here in Northeast, they are in a unique position to provide nutritious food to the community when it is most needed.
So, Little Wild Things has re-launched their popular salad share program for spring and is asking for your support and participation to help save the farm. They will provide the highest-quality greens and a fun, unique, and safe experience for you and your loved ones.
When you sign up for the salad share program you buy a share of the farm’s harvest before it is grown, investing in the future of the farm. In exchange you receive a share of healthy, local food from our harvest each week throughout the spring season. It is a unique urban take on the more traditional Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model.
Each share features a rotating selection of fresh, super-nutritious greens to make one week of colorful, flavorful salads. Including up to 1/2 a pound from a rotating selection of shoots, such as sunflower, pea, radish or the Signature Shoot Saled; a clamshell of micro greens, and occasional special seasonal treats (things like edible flowers, salad dressings, cocktail fixings. You’ll also get a lifetime 10 percent discount on Little Wild Things products.
The spring share program costs $250/share and includes 8 weeks of greens, beginning Tuesday, April 7, 2020 through Tuesday May 26, 2020.
Your share will be delivered to your home using safe, no-contact delivery practices every Tuesday between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., anywhere in DC. Or you can choose curbside pick-up at the farm each week. Come by on Tuesdays (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at 906 Bladensburg Rd. NE, Second Floor.
The urban farm will need to sell 100 shares to keep the farm afloat. Sign up for your salad share now!
You can also sign up for a virtual ‘Grow Your Own Microgreens Class’ with an optional grow kit. The class will be offered Monday, March 23 at 12 p.m. via Zoom. Get tickets online.
