A pedestrian was struck by a truck at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Third Street NE Monday morning.

The truck appeared to have been turning east onto Massachusetts from Third when the pedestrian was struck. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and DC Fire Emergency Services (DC FEMS) were called to the scene around 10:45 a.m. March 9. The driver of the truck, which bore the insignia of environmental services company Waste Management, remained on scene.

The pedestrian was transported to local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, MPD said.

The busy intersection, located near Capitol Hill Super Market (214 Massachusetts Ave. NE) is where Massachusetts Avenue intersects with Third and D Streets NE, leading to a criss-crossing of roads and multiple signals.

People waiting for the bus near the site of the accident said that the intersection should be reimagined or at minimum, clarity provided for drivers and pedestrians alike.
