DCPL Executive Director Richard Reyes-Gavilan stands outside the Southeast Neighborhood Library, May, 2019. The library is slated for renovation beginning in 2021. “People who use the Southeast library are very committed to it. They have a sense of ownership,” he said.

You have the opportunity to meet the Design Team selected to spearhead the renovation of the Southeast Neighborhood Library next week.

DC Public Library (DCPL) is hosting a community Meeting on Tuesday, March 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the North Hall of Eastern Market (225 Seventh St. SE). You can meet the team, get updates on the project, and share your input.

The library has hired the design/build team of Whiting-Turner Construction/Quinn Evans Architects for the $23 million transformation of the historic Library.

DCPL said there will be many opportunities throughout the design process for community input. On Feb. 8, there was a DCPL open house at Eastern Market to provide outreach to the neighborhood about the project, and more opportunities will be announced in the future.

The team has also established an online survey and suggestion box to get input from the community about the programs and services you want to see in a modernized library, which you can complete right now.
