The next Eastern Market Metro Park (EMMP) community meeting with the Department of General Services (DGS) will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12 at Watkins Elementary School (420 12 St. SE).

The meeting will discuss the updated park design, transportation concerns and the next steps towards the park renovation, which is expected to begin next year and be completed in two stages. Starting in February 2020, the first phase will focus on Parcel 1 (the site of the temporary playground). After a summer break, work on Parcel 4 (the site of the Metro entrance) will begin in October 2020 and be concluded in April 2021.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Public Space Committee approved concepts for construction permits at their Oct. 24th meeting.

Commissioners for Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 6B expressed disappointment at their October meeting that the hearing would proceed despite the ANC and residents having had only days to review the results of a March transportation study conducted in the area. At that same meeting, DGS assured commissioners that the study and transportation more widely would be a focus of the next community meeting to be scheduled.
