The annual Ward 6 holiday party and community awards celebration, known as the Brickie Awards, will be held Thursday, December 5, at the new DC Water headquarters (120 O St. SE), right on the Capitol Riverfront.

The awards are an annual celebration of the people, places, and organizations that make the Ward 6 community great. Established 11 years ago as the ‘Livable Walkable Awards’ by then-Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells, the awards are presented as engraved bricks. The event was nicknamed ‘The Brickies’ by Hill Rag Editor Andrew Lightman.

You can nominate the Ward 6 neighbors, businesses, community organizations, or others who you think deserve special recognition. Take a moment and make a nomination (or more than one) in one of five different categories. Award categories include:

Frances Slaughter, better known as Ms. Frances to generations of Hill children, accepted her 2018 Brickie Award with one of her ‘suggas’ by her side.
  • Neighbor Award
  • Community Organization Award
  • Business Award
  • Public Service Award
  • Civic Pride Award

Nominations are open through Friday, Nov. 15. Last year’s winners included noted early-childhood educator Ms. Frances Slaughter (Neighbor Award), Clean Decisions (Business Award) and the groups and people that stepped up after the 2018 fire at the Arthur Capper Senior Housing Complex.

All are welcome to join in this free and fun evening to lift up our neighbors, community organizations, and businesses that make Ward 6 the best place to call home. RSVP here!
