A spate of gun violence in October and incidents involving juveniles have been the impetus for community discussion about safety and justice. After attending a series of meetings in October in particular neighborhoods, Councilmember Charles Allen (D-Ward 6) has announced that he will bring together neighbors from across Ward 6 for a bigger and more engaging conversation that gives all of us concrete steps to take to improve public safety for everyone.

The meeting will be held at Watkins Elementary School (420 12th St. SE) on Thursday, November 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Allen said the meeting will not involve a few city leaders standing in front of a room. A panel discussion on DC Justice will be hosted on Nov. 13 at the Harold J Gordon Building.

Rather, the Nov. 21st meeting is intended to be a space for accountability and action. “I want this to be a chance to come together and proactively work on solutions beyond the usual meetings where we simply provide updates on recent crimes,” he said in a note sent to constituents Wednesday.
