On Barracks Row, Tortuga Caribbean Bar & Grille is extending summer with festive pop-ups September 6, 7 and 13 and 14. Located at 514 Eighth St. SE, the five-month old Tortuga is part of The Hill Restaurant Group. Tortuga’s brightly appointed roof deck bar—complete with palm trees and colorful murals–is especially popular. The special promotion goes from 5 to 10 p.m. each day, as bartenders concoct frozen cocktails including Key Lime Colada and Rum Runner. Guests may sample those two –and maybe more? potent potables for free.

To accompany their libations, guests may order from culinary director (chef) Loren Hunter’s regular menu: Choices encompass tuna poke made with ahi (sushi-grade) tuna with guacamole; scallop ceviche; crunchy conch fritters with chipotle aioli; crab and shrimp bisque; spicy conch chowder. Prices are moderate.

For the pop-up’s $200 gift card “give-away,” use the hatchtag #TortugaDC. The fun event is free and open to the public, but you have to RSVP with www.eventbrite.com/e/tortuga-end-of-summer-pop-up-tickets-7002566139. Tortuga is open daily; call 202-543-1445 or visit www.tortugadc.com.

By the way, HRG sister restaurant/bar Orchid, 520 H St. SE, has closed. Look for a future, upscale venture in that space.
