Come ‘Rediscover Eastern Market’ during the weekend celebration from June 7th-9th! The celebration recognizes the 10-year anniversary of the full refurbishment and restoration of the Eastern market building. Learn about the past, present and future of Eastern Market and the small businesses that call Eastern Market home.

In 2007, Eastern Market suffered a devastating early morning fire. The following day, the Mayor pledged to rebuild the damaged market and restore its historic architectural features. The Department of General Services (DGS) led the rebuilding efforts, in partnership with a District-formed public-private partnership including the Eastern Market Community Advisory Committee (EMCAC) and the Capitol Hill Community Foundation.

Eastern Market reopened to great fanfare nearly ten years ago, in June 2009. Today, from hard-to-find pastas, local and international cheeses to exquisite jewelry and art, Eastern Market provides an inviting, fun experience for all ages.

Eastern Market is the oldest continually operating public fresh food market in DC. Located in the heart of the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood Eastern Market has served as a community hub, connecting neighbors, families and visitors for more than 146 years.

The event includes tours of the market itself providing the history of the building, its centrality to the community, and the fire and its aftermath. There will be live music, fresh food and more.

The event is free and open to the public. RSVP for Rediscover Eastern Market on Eventbrite. Learn more about Eastern Market: http://easternmarket-dc.org/, or follow them on Twitter, Facebook by finding @EasternMarketDC or on Instagram, @easternmarket_dc.
