Marine Barracks to Conduct Mid-Week Exercise

Blanks Will Be Fired in Course of Exercise

On Tuesday, 23 April and Wednesday, 24 April the Marine Barracks Washington (Eighth and I Streets SE) will conduct an active threat exercise, a spokesperson announced last week. The exercise is not expected to have an impact on the neighborhood or traffic in the area.

Neighbors should be forewarned that during the exercise Marines will be firing blank firearm cartridges, which may be audible from their homes.

Below is the planned schedule of when and where blanks will be utilized during the exercise.

Tuesday, 23 April

  • 9 to 10 a.m.: approximately 20 blanks fired at the Annex
  • 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.: approximately 20 blanks fired in I Street
    Towers

Wednesday, 24 April

  • 9:30 – 11 a.m.: approximately 30 blanks fired on the parade deck.

Gunnery Sargeant John Jackson said that no time during the exercise will any blank rounds be fired outside the walls of Marine Barracks Washington property.
