The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) invites the community to attend a public meeting to discuss the rehabilitation of the Whitney Young Bridge, formerly known as the East Capitol Street Bridge. This meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at St. Coletta of Greater Washington (1901 Independence Ave. SE).

The East Capitol Bridge was built in 1955 and renamed for Civil Rights activist Whitney Young in 1974. It carries East Capitol Street across the Anacostia River, linking RFK Stadium Campus to Fort Dupont over Kingman and Heritage Islands.

In 2016, DDOT completed evaluations of the bridge to assess rehabilitation options. The project aims to ensure public safety and extend the remaining life of the 61-year-old bridge.

DDOT will present an overview of the project, the construction schedule and what to expect during construction at this meeting.

The meeting is public and all are welcome to attend. For more information about this public meeting, please email stacee@tbaconnects.com
