Volunteer to help a DC Student apply to college. The Capitol Hill-based non-profit Serve Your City (SYC) works to provide underserved youth with equal opportunity through education and athletic programs. The organization believes that every DC student deserves support with the admission process.
“The latest news about how rigged our College Admissions system is feels painful, upsetting, and disappointing for all of us,” Cook wrote recently, after news broke of an admissions cheating scandal. “Education is the greatest equalizer and it is heartbreaking to know and acknowledge that this society struggles to provide equal access based on merit. What lies between aspiration and reality is the work.”
Join a volunteer orientation to help Serve Your City do that work., and training volunteers to provide support, guidance and information to students and families as they navigate the college admissions process.
If you have ever applied to college, you are qualified to be a College Prep Volunteer.
Volunteer orientation takes place Wednesday, March 27 at Jan’s Tutoring House (1529 Pennsylvania Ave. SE), easily accessible from the Potomac Avenue Metro Station. For more information or to register, email info@serveyourcitydc.org
