Commissioner Steve Holtzman (ANC 6B05) announced that on Thursday evening a new project design for the Eastern Market Metro Park (EMMP) Plaza was made available to ANC6B.
The designs were part of a presentation made by the Department of General Services (DGS)-led EMMP Design Build Team to the Federal Commission on Fine Arts (CFA), the federal agency charged with reviewing design and architectural development in designated areas of the District. CFA approval of plans is required to move forward with construction.
Holtzman said the plans as presented in the presentation, which was made March 7 by DGS to EMMP, are far more refined than previous iterations. The plans show significant changes in the overall design of the park between Eighth and Ninth Streets SE, known as parcel 1. Holtzman also said that that the presentation is more user-friendly than past drafts, make it easier to review and understand.
The presentation will be incorporated into the Agenda of the March 11th meeting of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 6B Livable Communities Task Force. The meeting will be a stocktaking and review of plans for Parcel 1. The core projections of what is being proposed for the parcel 1 park are on pages 25-26 of the document.
The CFA presentation is not available on the DGS project website, but it has been shared on the ANC6B website and is easily accessible online at anc6b.org. It is likely to be modified by the EMMP Design Team, which will incorporate feedback from CFA in another, potentially final concept design to be presented at the next EMMP Community meeting.
The next EMMP community meeting is set for Wednesday, April 3. The meeting takes place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Eastern Market North Hall (Seventh Street and North Carolina Avenue SE).
The meeting of the ANC Livable Communities Task Force, focused on a discussion of Parcel 1, takes place 7:00 p.m Monday March 11 at The Corner Store Arts (900 South Carolina Ave. SE)
