Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday, October 24, on the 1200 block of 17th Street NE.
Around 5:57 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, members found a man in a car suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (DC FEMS) were summoned to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital.
After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 22-year-old Tom Marmet of Northeast.
According to DC Crime Data, there have been 135 homicides so far in 2018, 39 more lives lost in 2018 than were lost on the same date in 2017.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.
An earlier version of this story identified the victim in this case as Roger Marmet, as per the police report. Community members have since corrected the name of their friend and colleague. The Hill Rag regrets the error.
