From 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 10th, students from more than 18 Capitol Hill-Area schools will gather near the Mary McLeod Bethune statue on the east side of Lincoln Park (11th and East Capitol Streets SE) for Walk-to-School Day!

The program includes activities, snacks, warm up exercises, student performances and words from DC public Schools Interim Chancellor Amanda Alexander and Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6-D), who will MC the event.

The event features a selfie station, light snacks performances by school groups such as the J.O. Wilson cheerleading team and the Tyler All-Star Steppers and a ‘warm-up’ session from local fitness celebrities Gabriella Boston and Kathy Pugh.

Additional speakers include DC Department of Transportation Director Jeff Marootian. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) will support safe traffic flow around the park.

The event is organized by the Capitol Hill Public Schools Parent Organization (CHPSPO) in partnership with University of North Carolina’s National Center for Safe Routes to School, with support from the Capitol Hill Community Foundation.
