H Street Restaurant Addis Ethiopian Refuses to Delay Hearing

ANC 6C meeting in July. The Commission has called an emergency meeting September 1 to consider an application for substantial changes to the liquor license held by Addis Ethiopian Restaurant (707 H St. NE).

Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 6C will hold an emergency meeting 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 1 at the Northeast Library (330 Seventh St NE).

The meeting will consider an application by Addis Ethiopian Restaurant (707 H St. NE) for a substantial change to its liquor license.

The restaurant wants to expand to the second and third floor of the building it occupies, which would more than double seating capacity of 59 to 122, expanding the building’s Occupancy Load from 65 to 269 on all three floors. The license also would include a permit for live music, and a closing time of 2 a.m.

On April 25, the District Alcohol Beverage Control Board suspended the restaurant’s liquor license for non-payment of license fees. The applicant paid the fees and late fines two days later, and the license was reinstated.

The current deadline for petitions supporting or opposing this license change is September 4. Since ANCs do not meet in August, ANC 6C asked Addis Ethiopian Restaurant to extend the deadline until after their next full meeting September 12.

The applicant refused, so Chair Karen Wirt (6C02) announced the emergency meeting to consider the application.

The meeting takes place 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 1 in the Mezzanine Room of the Northeast Library (330 Seventh St. NE). Neighbors and other stakeholders are encouraged to attend and voice concerns about the application.
