It’s Ward 6 Week August 6th to 11th

Annual Celebration of People and Places that Make Area Great

1207

From August 6th to August 11th, celebrate Ward 6 Week! Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6-D) hosts a series of activities all week long that celebrate the area’s neighborhoods and neighbors by sampling the people, places and activities that make Ward 6 a great place to be. Most are free, but many require RSVP.

This year’s activities include a wine and local book pairing Tuesday evening at East City Bookshop (645 Pennsylvania Ave SE). From 6:30 to 8 p.m., sample a delicious wine, find your next night stand read and meet like-minded neighbors.

On Wednesday evening, join the Shaw Walking Tour with Shaw Main Streets Director Alexander Pedro. Revisit the riots that erupted in the area fifty years ago in response to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. Afterward, everyone plans to head over to Shaw Tavern to talk about what they’ve learned over a pint.

Ward 6 Week ends Saturday with Community Day at Lansburgh Park (1098 Delaware Ave SW). From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. there will be food, music from a live DJ, a school supply giveaway, voter registration drive, hair cuts, games and activities for the kids and more! Everyone is welcome.

These are only a few of the activities that are part of the Ward 6 Week line-up! Learn more or check out the full list on Councilmember Allen’s website. Many activities require RSVP, so let your neighbors know you’ll be joining them!
