Shooting Early Saturday in Capitol Quarter

Around 3:20 a.m. Saturday morning, a man and a teenager were shot while standing in front of 1005 5th Street SE, across from the Capitol Quarter Recreation Center in Navy Yard.

An unknown number of suspects in a dark -colored vehicle opened fire on the victims wounding both of them.  The teenaged victim was shot multiple times, while the man was shot in the leg. Both were transported to the hospital.  

The suspects fled in an unknown direction, and police are not sure how many individuals were in front of 1005 5th Street SE at the time of the shooting.

Two weapons were recovered in front of the recreation center, as well as rifles casings found among multiple shell casings.

There is a public meeting of Police Service Area (PSA) 106 at the Capitol Quarter Community Center (1000 Fifth St. SE) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 24. Community members can voice concerns, ask questions and learn more from area police about the shooting and any other public safety concerns.
