Police investigated two related incidents in Northeast Monday evening, arresting one suspect but still searching for a second after an attempted carjacking and attempted robbery that took place only a few minutes and a few blocks apart.
On July 16 at about 9:30 p.m., police investigated a report of an attempted carjacking on the 700 block of F Street NE.
The victim reported that two suspects threatened her and ordered her out of her vehicle while she was stopped on the block. The suspects were unable to drive off in the victim’s vehicle as it had a mechanical issue.
Both suspects were described as black males, possibly juveniles, approx. 5′-10″ to 6′-0″ wearing dark clothing and masks.
While investigating the attempted carjacking, officers encountered another victim reporting a separate attempted robbery in the 700 block of 10th St NE. The lookout information matched the suspects from the 700 block of F St NE.
Within minutes, officers saw someone matching the description and after a brief foot chase, caught him on the 1100 block of H St NE.
After an on-scene investigation, the suspect was placed under arrest and charged with both offenses.
Fortunately, neither victim was physically assaulted or injured during the offenses.
One suspect is still outstanding, and First District Detectives are currently investigating both cases. Anyone who has knowledge of either incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099. You can also text your tip to the Department’s Text Tip Line at 50411.
