Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred more than are year ago, on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, on the 600 block of 14th Place, Northeast.

At approximately 6:40 a.m. that day, officers responded to reports of gunshots. When they arrived, officers found two men in a vehicle, both with gunshot wounds.

DC Fire and EMS transported one victim to a local hospital, in critical condition.  The second victim displayed no signs consistent with life and remained on the scene until he was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent was identified as 22-year-old Ronnell Tye Reaves, of Suitland, MD.

On Sunday, July 8, 2018, 23-year-old Kevin Kennedy, of Southeast DC succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Police have already charged one suspect. On Monday, February 6, 2017, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested an adult male and charged him with Second Degree Murder while Armed in connection with this case. He will now face additional charges.

Officers are still looking for information in this case.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
