I feel you waiting in the darkness
for me, Charon
And I stand, unafraid,
naked to your inevitable threat.
Go tell the desperate souls
beyond the river, Styx,
That I am coming soon
laden with tales of human achievement
The like of which they have never heard,
the like of which will challenge
The hopelessness of their forgotten thoughts
and bring them a moment’s relief
From their eternal nothingness.
Tell them I will arrive sooner than later,
So that I come in impudent defiance
of the gods.
Say that I am a man, as they,
but who will not bow to death.
Say that I come to spread revolution
among the dead,
That I will take the lead in demanding
our genetic heritage of immortality,
That I preach what they have forgotten:
that Man is the end product of Life,
That we were born to dominate reality…and
evolved to live forever and ever. Amen.
