According to information provided by Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), two people were shot Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Benning Road and 17th Street NE, although as Hill Rag reported yesterday afternoon, one victim was discovered by police after they answered reports from the southeastern part of the city.
Thursday afternoon at approximately 3:31 p.m., MPD First District officers responded to the area of 17th and East Capitol Streets SE for the report of a shooting. They found an adult male suffering from a single gunshot wound to his torso.
While on the scene, officers confirmed that the victim was actually shot in the area of 17th Street and Benning Road, NE, in the Fifth District.
Between 3:30 p.m. and 6:40 p.m. Thursday, 17th Street was closed in a southbound direction from East Capitol and the 1700 block of East Capitol NE was blocked westbound for the investigation.
The lookout provided is for a black male, 25 years of age and wearing black jacket and blue jeans.
Police also responded to reports of a shooting at about 3:50 p.m. on the 1700 block of Benning Road NE. That victim was reportedly shot once in the buttock, and treated at a local hospital. There is no lookout for any suspects in that case.
