On Sunday afternoon at about 4:30 p.m., two First District officers were patrolling the 1300 block of Emerald Street NE. Officers Hashida and Modlin were focusing on burglary, robbery and theft prevention in their patrol when they noticed a man standing in the alley near a fence.

As the officers turned their vehicle into the alley, the man took off running, jettisoning packages as he did so. The police captured the man, and discovered the packages had been taken from a porch on the block. The man also had an outstanding warrant for a burglary offense.

First District Detectives are investigating a robbery that took place in Southeast on Sunday night.
