Capoeira DC is a non-profit organization focused on teaching capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art, through classes, community outreach and youth development. The academy is celebrating its 15 year anniversary this year. In honor of this important milestone, Capoeira DC is hosting a two-week series of events and workshops with capoeira masters from around the world, teaching the music, dance, and martial elements of this art form.
The 15 days of Capoeira DC will begin with an open house on Sept. 23rd at The Capoeira Spot at 2008 Rhode Island Ave. NE. A batizado (graduation celebration) will be held on Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. at the Atlas Theatre on H St. On the evening of Sept. 29, there will be a fundraising art show of works from around the world donated from capoeoristas’ travels.
